Libyan opposition wants access to frozen funds


  • The international community should not content itself with supporting the struggle against the Qadhafi regime, he said
  • “A short time ago, we passed a message to the UN representative for Libya, to be conveyed to Security Council members, (asking) that Libya’s assets be allocated to us,” Jibril told reporters through an interpreter
  • Davutoglu said financial support for the opposition would figure high on the agenda of next week’s meeting in Istanbul of the International Contact Group on Libya
  • UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions introduced separately by the United States and the European Union against Qadhafi’s regime have restricted the movement of Libyan funds abroad
  • “The Libyan people are also plagued by problems of hunger, poverty and shortage of medicine and housing,” he added
